ASA Acrylonitrile styrene acrylate

Like ABS but built for the outdoors. Resists UV, weather, and heat without yellowing or cracking.

About ASA

Overview

  • ABS built for the outdoors: car parts, garden hardware, sensor housings.
  • Print it like ABS: enclosed, warm chamber, ventilated room.

Pros

  • Excellent UV and weather resistance, so it stays put in sun, rain, and cold
  • Heat deflection around 86-96 °C, similar to or slightly below ABS
  • Tough with a clean, slightly matte finish
  • Smoothable with acetone like ABS

Cons

  • Needs an enclosure; prone to warping in drafts (sources rate it a little easier than ABS)
  • Gives off fumes while printing, so vent the enclosure outdoors
  • Costs more than ABS and PETG
  • Less beginner friendly than PLA or PETG
