Ratings are relative, 1-5, for a typical filament of this type. Start from your filament maker's recommended settings.

Use it for

  • When looks come first: vases, trophies, jewelry-style pieces, decorative gifts, and dual- or tri-color figures all benefit from silk’s metallic glow.

Watch out for

  • Layers generally bond less strongly than normal PLA, so parts are more brittle. Some newer silk formulations claim better adhesion, so check the brand.
  • Print slower and a bit hotter than you would plain PLA, or the shine turns dull and patchy.
  • Fine detail can look smeared because the shiny surface hides it.

Tips

  • Use thicker walls and a larger nozzle for visible parts, and keep it away from anything that bears load.
